‘Armenia’s disappointment will continue. It looks like they have not yet reached final conclusions after the war. Some of their inappropriate statements and steps show that they still have to draw conclusions. They should not forget about the second Karabakh war. While in Yerevan, Charles Michel called the territories bordering with Armenia disputed. To be honest, I disagree with this statement. Because we believe that these are our territories. I believe that this is the territory of Zangezur. And Zangezur is the land of our ancestors, and we are on our own territory.’ President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev stated this in an interview with Azerbaijan State Television.
Noting that this issue was discussed during Charles Michel’s visit to Azerbaijan, the head of state noted: ‘I tried to explain that we have reached our borders. Why did we do it in May? The snow has melted. There was two or three metres of snow. It was impossible to climb up there. As soon as the snow melted, we went out there, took the positions we needed, strengthened and continue to strengthen. Therefore, of course, Armenia’s disappointment comes from the fact that they are still living on dreams. They cannot come to terms with the realities of the post-war period. I believe that the psychological factor also plays a role here. They probably need time to get used to the new reality from a psychological point of view. Because our victory destroyed all their ideological pillars.’
The President of Azerbaijan said that for 30 years the Armenians have been inventing stories about themselves. They tried to convince the world that they supposedly have a victorious and invincible army, that the Armenian people are a warrior people, the Armenian army is the strongest.
‘And what happened? We destroyed and defeated them within 44 days. We have shown that the Azerbaijani people are a victorious people. We have shown that all their propaganda is based on mythology. We showed that in the first Karabakh war they got an advantage through external support. This is not a secret to anyone. Of course, I understand that realising this, living with this reality, getting used to it is not an easy task. Therefore, we must take into account the psychological state. But at the same time, I must say that Armenia should not make previous mistakes. Because their inappropriate and unacceptable steps, statements cost them too much. The second Karabakh war demonstrated this. There is no need to be wasting one’s breath in vain,’ said President Ilham Aliyev.
