Moscow, Baku Reiterate Importance of Cooperation in Int’l Organizations, Other Multilateral Forums – Joint Statement
Interfax. ru – Russia and Azerbaijan intend to cooperate on matters of mutual interest on international forums, the Kremlin website said.
“The presidents acknowledged the importance of continuing to develop cooperation on matters of mutual interest in international organizations and at other multilateral forums and expressed the commitment of their states to the goals and principles of the UN Charter, as well as enhancing its influence, role, and efficiency as a universal organization called upon to play a central coordinating role in international relations and not to allow commonly accepted principles and norms of international law to be undermined,” Russian President Vladimir Putin and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said in a joint statement published on the Kremlin website.
Russia and Azerbaijan reiterated their desire to facilitate a world order “based on international law, free of double standards and ruling out the drawing of dividing lines,” the two presidents said.
“The Russian Federation mentioned the importance of stronger practical cooperation for forming a just Eurasian security architecture,” the statement says.
Russia and Azerbaijan also acknowledged the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s important role in promoting peace, security, stability, and sustainable development, the statement says. “The Russian Federation supports the idea of elevating the Republic of Azerbaijan’s status in the SCO, as well as its interest in strengthening cooperation with BRICS,” it said.
