China Begins Adjustment of Tariffs on Imports From US

Beijing removes tariffs on US products after both countries agreed on initial 90-day tariff relief following Geneva talks

China on Wednesday began the procedure to adjust tariffs on imported US products following the two countries’ agreement on initial 90-day tariff relief after Geneva talks.

On Tuesday, the Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council of China said that tariffs adjustment on imported US products will start from Wednesday 12.01 pm Beijing time (0401GMT), according to Xinhua News Agency,

China will modify accordingly the application of the additional ad valorem rate of duty on articles of the United States set forth in the Announcement of the Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council No. 4 of 2025, by suspending 24 percentage points of that rate for an initial period of 90 days, while retaining the remaining additional ad valorem rate of 10% on those articles,” said the Customs Tariff Commission.

Beijing also removed the modified additional ad valorem rates of duty on those articles imposed on April 9 and 11.

On Monday, Beijing and Washington said that they have agreed to a sweeping rollback of punitive tariffs for an initial 90-day period following intense weekend negotiations in Geneva.

The talks came after President Donald Trump raised tariffs on Chinese imports to 145%, prompting Beijing to retaliate with 125% duties on American goods.
